Tend to Your Garden as June Blooms

JUNE 1, 2020
When we conceived “Operation Love on Earth Day,” delivering at-home vegetable gardening packages to our staff, we were unaware of the ensuing quarantine during the Coronavirus pandemic. Befitting to this time of solitude, our gardens became a beautiful symbol of growth while we stayed safe working from home.

As per Minnie Aumonier, “When the world wearies and society fails to satisfy, there is always the garden.”

The AlphaBioCom staff has embraced these poetic words, tending to their gardens and reaping their benefits of health and happiness.
Lauren Hanlon, PhD, our Scientific Communications Manager, shares now that her balcony garden is abloom, she and her mother are planting a full vegetable garden to nurture while at home! “I originally planted romaine lettuce and broccoli with the seeds that ABC provided, but since then we have added tomato and pepper plants, and carrots, beets, and spinach.”
“A garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness; it teaches industry and thrift; above all it teaches entire trust.” — Gertrude Jekyll (2011) ‘Wood and Garden: Notes and Thoughts, Practical and Critical, of a Working Amateur’ Cambridge University Press

Vertical growth as we garden

Laura LeGower, MBA, CMPP, our Sr. Vice President, Head of Client Services concurs. Her self-attested newbie green thumb gave her vegetables that actually lived long enough to make it to her table, as opposed to the wilting grocery store purchases or total lack there of during social distancing.

Chelsea Corradetti, PhD Senior Scientific Editor, loves the greens of her labor, seeing sprouts for broccoli, carrots, and spinach that are all growing in one planter on her windowsill. “I’m hoping to transfer them to bigger pots outside soon.” Let it grow!

A garden grows wherever there is sun and love

Operation Love brought fourth these many beautiful gardens and taught us…”There are always flowers for those who want to see them.” – Henri Matisse (1992). “Jazz”, George Braziller.
